Progress log

Where my group is at so far :

where I am so far on my two minute opening

So far as of today me and George still need to get a final copy of our script for the film, this shouldn't be too difficult as we do not have any real dialogue in our piece, so it will really just be outlining the plot of the opening. As well as this we are still awaiting confirmation from the two locations we have asked to use for the filming, and from there we will only need to sort out some definite filming dates.

Our main priority for the next week or so is to sort out our filming dates once we have gotten the ok from a venue.

Story board

Recently me and Michael finished drawing out and rendering our storyboard in which we have done a series of frames and what is happening at each point so we have a better idea of what our opening will look like. We initially had difficulty envisioning a certain scene in our opening and explaining it was difficult, we now however due to our story board have a clear idea of what we are both doing.

Locations

Our ideal location for the opening of our film would be a very basic hotel room with a minimalistic style and nothing to luxurious, although if this is not a possibility we would like to go to the opposite end of the spectrum and have a very luxurious hotel.
For our ideal location we are hoping to use the townhouse hotel in Wymondham town centre, it a pretty box standard hotel, with no real luxuries, but enough for someone to be comfortable and we want our character to seem like he is seeking no real luxuries and trying to lay low and avoid a lavish lifestyle. Also our character is to be very well dressed and we want him to contrast his environment a lot to make it seem as if he does not belong there which should hopefully make the audience begin to question why he is there in the first place which generates curiosity and a desire to watch the rest of the film. The suite is pictured below;

Failing that we would try to use a hotel room at Park Farm hotel, which is a very upper class and well furnished hotel, so our character would fit in well and we could generate a 'almost too perfect' kind of atmosphere around the scene to have the mood suddenly change to be much more sinister which would put the audience on edge and hopefully focus them on the film and wonder what has generated this shift in atmosphere.

Target audience

Our target audience consists of mostly males from the age of 15 up to around 55. Our film is an action/thriller and so is mainly aimed at males due to the violence that is typical with this genre that may put off female viewers. We conducted a survey containing twenty males and females who were all members of the sixth form and found that seven out of twenty females would watch an action film by themselves and eighteen out of twenty males would watch an action film by themselves.
Generally we are aiming for younger males as they are typically the most interested in this genre of film, they are most likely to watch this kind of film at the cinema but also just watch it at home when they are bored and hopefully this film will be able to draw them in so they end up being completely engrossed.

Audience research

Today Michael and I started our audience research and we are aiming to gain the input of between 6-10 people within our target audience which is 15 years and up and mainly male. We are recording these interviews and will upload an edited video containing the general consensus when we have completed our research.
The questions that we used are;
  1. What do you expect to see in a film opening?
  2. What openings have particularly stood out in films you have seen?
  3. What are the conventions of the action/thriller genre?
  4. What would you expect to see in the opening two minutes of an action thriller genre?
  5. What do you think of our idea?
  6. Would our opening sequence make you want to watch the rest of the film?
